Observation:
-Good location, on top of the hill, good ventilation, natural sunlight and wind- good for the elderly
-Interior: no design, plain walls
-Cleanliness: good
-Facilities: well maintained, good quality beds and mattresses
-Space planning: spacious but no privacy
-The elderly are very happy and touching to see us (perhaps their children seldom come and visit them)
-Total no of old folks: 20
Total no of workers: 3 Indonesians
Interviews:
-This is a private old folks home where children pay monthly (around RM300-RM700) to send their elderly parents here.
-The children who send their parents over are hypercritical, they could not give what their parents need yet they aspect the best from the homes. They always complain about the insufficient facilities, workers not being caring enough etc. Therefore the owner of the home also feel fed up with all these fastidious customers, therefore they will only select those good families with little or no problem at all.
My
own opinion: no matter how good is the facilities, or how well is the
center being maintained, the loneliness in each of the old folks' inner
heart could not be cured, they are being abandoned by their families,
this is a fact that they have to face. Volunteers, visitors and the workers are very important to give them hope, cheer them up, and to give them happiness. Anyhow the most important is that they themselves have to forget about the sadness and get out of the dark side. It would be useless if we wish to help them but they do not even want to let us help.
The public living room, also their bedrooms
(arrangement of beds in order, wall paint are new and well maintained)
The reception area where I had my interviews with the person in charge here.
Kitchen area and the only 3 Indonesians workers
