My First Visit to a Disabled Children Home

This is my first Visit to a disabled children's home.

Taman Megah's Handicapped And Disabled Children's Home
Location: 2, Jalan SS24/10, Taman Megah, 47301 Petaling Jaya;   Date: 2/10/2012

Observation:
-Overall consider as well planned
-Facilities are old but still well maintained and sufficient. Mini sona, cctv. Not enough cupboard, things are put on the floor in boxes which makes the space looks very messy and congested.
-Location: Beside the main road, visible (colourful), corner house
-Space Planning: . Compact, not enough to fit 140 children in such a small house. Insufficient varieties of spaces for them to do various kinds of activities, they rest, eat and receive treatment at the same place. The management office is together with the children's public area
-Service: Workers and volunteers are helpful
-Temperature: very hot, no air-conditioner

Research:
-Their Vision:  To ahead the children's future and facilitates them to be more independent, able to read and write and face reality of life despite their disabilities
-Double stories: 1st public spaces, kitchen, toilets
-Origin of the centre: It was founded by the late Mr. Manikumar, who was himself physically handicapped. His vision was to provide an environment for the betterment of disabled children, to improve their lives and for them to be given equal status in society. He dedicated his whole life to "Make Dreams Real" for these special children.
-Survive based on donations & generates fund through sales of souvenirs. Expenses every month around RM16,000.
-140 handicapped & disabled friends ranging from few months to 53years old.
-These children have 0% to fully recover but they still need to receive physiotherapy all the time to prevent deterioration
-Disabilities: down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, global development delay, muscular dystrophy, speech, audio and vision impaired, dwarfism, Noonan's syndrome, slow learners, hyper active, physically challenged, intellectually disabled, and also under-privileged children from broken homes
-Problem: Visitors take photos of the disabled and post photos on public area to raise funds - not respect!

Conclusion:
They really need a bigger space with different zones and better air ventilation space to improve their living condition.
