Visit to Precious Home - Orphanage

Visit: Precious Home
Date: 19th Oct 2012

Observation:
- spacious (living room) but messy (children need big space to express themselves)
- not enough of rooms (create an open space for beds)
- old furniture with different design (from donation, not synchronise)
- cleanliness of the home is well maintained (college students come as volunteers to help to clean the home)
- good location (among the residential house - quite & safe)

Interviews:
- Only ground floor is being used because they put poison at the 1st floor due to termite
   (old building, facing maintenance problem)
- Safety is the most important for children (mosquitoes net is necessary - basic facilities)
- Education must be provided for the children no matter how poor is the home (tuition, mini library, stationery)
- Outdoor tuition (not enough interior space)
- Most of the orphans are from the street or poor family background (parents are drug-addicts)
- The home is facing funding problem (main issue)

*Extra topic about old folks home
- Children put their parents in old folks home (not abandoned them but actually got its benefits)
- Think from other point of view, elderly have no professional medical care in own house, they are lonely and bored living alone when their children are working (live together with friends - communicate with each other)
- Living in an old folks home with good condition (safety, secure, prevent accident)

The boys' bedroom (natural sunlight - good ventilation)

The Dining Area (very happening - children are trained to be discipline - wash their own plates after meal)

The Boys' bedroom together with the study area and the dining area to living area
There is no partition to separate the 4 areas
(congested, messy)
